Run pre-run sanity checks, post-run reconciliation, or a full-period payroll review across every pay cycle in scope — including draft/duplicate pay-run detection, super guarantee rate compliance, payroll settings review, GL-vs-payroll reconciliation, STP Phase 2 hygiene and bank-out reconciliation. Use this skill when the user is about to post a pay run, has just posted a pay run and needs to check it, asks for a payroll close/review for a month, quarter or financial year, or runs the /payroll-close slash command. Also triggers on: 'checking the pay before I post', 'reconcile the payroll', 'is the bank file right', 'STP compliance check', 'why did super go up this week', 'review the payroll for the year'.

"longDescription": "Payroll is the highest-stakes weekly task in a bookkeeping practice. New hires get missed, terminations get processed late, leave applications sit unapproved, super percentages drift after a salary change, draft pay runs sit forgotten, and STP Phase 2 codes silently break compliance. The errors are mostly small individually but compound across pay cycles and become very expensive when they finally surface — usually via the employee, never via the bookkeeper.\n\nXBert Payroll Close runs three ways: a pre-run sanity check (before you post the pay), a post-run reconciliation (after the pay is posted but before the bank file goes out), and a period review that walks every pay cycle in a month, quarter or financial year. Every mode starts with a census: every employee (so staff terminated in prior years are excluded from current findings) and every pay run in range regardless of status (so drafts, duplicates and missing cycles surface immediately). The period review judges each pay run's super guarantee rate against the statutory minimum effective on that run's payment date, reviews the payroll settings actually in use, and reconciles payroll activity to the general ledger — wages expense, PAYG withholding (the W1/W2 tie-in to the IAS), and super payable. Anything the connected data cannot verify is reported honestly under 'Not checked — verify in the ledger' rather than silently skipped. The bookkeeper still owns the pay run; the plugin owns the checking.",
